CO-PARENT COUNSELING
Navigating the challenges of co-parenting can be complex and often emotionally draining. As an experienced practitioner, I offer tailored support to foster healthy and effective communication between co-parents.
I’m so glad you found your way here. I look forward to supporting you in your co-parenting. Let’s get it working harmoniously for the sake of your kids!
DETAILS:
CO-PARENT COUNSELING: Co-parent counseling (or therapy) is an intervention designed to support parents who are not in a relationship with each other but are raising children together.
VIDEO CONFERENCING: By default, I conduct sessions virtually on a secure version of zoom because parents find this to be a convenient way of working that is both effective and efficient.
BENEFITS:
Improve Understanding: I run a business-like meeting and we solve real parenting problems, but I also find there is the opportunity to understand where your co-parent is coming from. Even if you don’t share their perspective, understanding it can support cooperation!
Enhance Communication: Learn strategies to communicate effectively, reduce tensions, and ensure being on the same page regarding important parenting decisions.
Resolve Conflict: Address and resolve conflicts constructively, promoting a cooperative co-parenting environment.
Child-Centered Focus: Develop skills to prioritize your children’s needs and emotions, fostering a nurturing environment for their growth.
Future Focus: Together we can create a comprehensive co-parenting plan that reflects both parents' values and goals. This paves the wave for less stress navigating future parenting decisions. We do not dwell on past hurts but move forward to create new positive patterns!
WHAT DOES THE WORK LOOK LIKE?
Co-parenting counseling often resembles mediation more than traditional therapy. As a licensed psychotherapist and counselor, I serve as an impartial party to support you in making your own parenting decisions rather than relying on litigation and court interventions. The primary focus is on ensuring that your children's welfare guides your choices. My goal is to create an environment where you can find mutually agreeable solutions by providing a safe space to express concerns.
I start with individual 60-minute intake sessions to gather information about your concerns and goals. After that, we move into joint sessions to address your co-parenting objectives, which can include improving communication, discussing timeshare, planning holidays, and developing a parenting plan.
We’ll begin with a 90-minute joint session, and together we’ll decide on the best meeting frequency for you—whether that’s every other week for 90 minutes, weekly for 60 minutes, or another arrangement that suits your needs. Ultimately, the aim is to empower you to manage things independently, with the option to reach out to me as needed in the future.
