CURRENT WORK

Court Involved Therapist, Private Practice (2019-Present)

Supporting families in the bay area (primarily Sonoma County) to navigate the difficulties of divorce. Specializing in mediation and co-parenting counseling to support parents in working through conflict, finding common ground, and maintaining a focus on meeting the needs of their children. Specializing in working with high conflict divorce situations, and if needed using the two-therapist model through the High Conflict Co-Parenting Project. Provided Family Counseling (formerly known as reunification therapy). Specialized trainings and consultations individually and in group with long time experts in this field in Sonoma County.


PREVIOUS WORK

Program Manager, Educator, Therapist, Child Parent Institute (2015 - 2020)

Designed, coordinated, and implemented the Parent Orientation Program which supported clients in navigating their child welfare cases with clear and dramatic statistical improvements to the results for clients engaged in the program. Provided orientation and education to the Child Welfare system, the Foster Care System, and the Juvenile Dependency Court System; as well as an overview of peripheral issues such as domestic violence and trauma and resiliency. Provided outreach to engage, motivate, and recruit new clients. Provided one on one support to clients in the form of therapeutic assistance and crisis management coaching. Provided individual ANSA assessments for clients to assist with guidance toward proper services. Taught class with adept classroom management to handle emotionally charged topics within groups of clients with a variety of mental health presentations as well as being in current crisis (experiencing loss and trauma).


Bilingual Caseworker, Therapist, Hanna Boys Center (2007 - 2015)

Provided individual, family, and group psychotherapy in a residential treatment center for troubled teenagers. Advocated for their needs within the larger system. Collaborated with educators and childcare workers, oversaw all facets of the boy’s life at Hanna, including directing their treatment planning. Interfaced on behalf of or with the clients with outside resources such as courts, probation, immigration, and social services. Worked with clients on social/emotional education, academic/career counseling, skill building, trauma resolution, and resiliency/hope building. Led youth counselor trainings. As the only Spanish speaking clinician, helped with translation and other concerns directly and on behalf of all our youth and families. Helped the center maintain and improve cultural competency.


Conflict Resolution Specialist, Common Language Program (2003-2006)

Taught conflict resolution workshops in schools (including school wide teacher trainings) in Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, and San Mateo Counties. Worked intensively with the entire population at a Watsonville school (students almost exclusively children of migrant farm workers with English as a second or third language) developing a school wide anti-bullying program and conflict resolution system.


Prison and Youth Detention Outreach, Whitman Walker Clinic, San Quentin Drama Workshop, San Jose Repertory (1991-2003)

Managed, organized, and toured prisons with a performance/discussion on drug abuse and AIDS. Worked with various disempowered populations (incarcerated youth and adults, autistic teens, at-risk and mainstream youth) providing empowerment and healing through shared creation of theatre.


Suicide Prevention, University of Maryland, and Montgomery County Maryland Mental Health Departments. (1989-90)

Created, directed, and participated in peer outreach group to educate about suicide and depression with the university mental health department. Directed a similar group at high school level.
